SOAC (STAFF OFFICER AWARENESS COURSE)
For those not initiated in C-IED issues, the course is intended to familiarize Staff Officers and Senior Non-Commissioned Officers assigned to Commands/Staffs at Operational level Headquarters with an overview of the IED system and approaches to attacking it. It is to be noted that the lessons are specifically designed for J2, J3 and information Ops staff officers. Emphasis is on Battle Staff interaction at the Operational level.
The course is based on the doctrinal foundations of AJP 3.15A and STANAG 2294 and supported by the findings of the C-IED Training Needs Analysis (TNA) study, and is intended to familiarize Staff Officers and Senior Non-Commissioned Officers assigned to Battle Staffs at Operational Level Headquarters with an overview of the IED system and approaches to attacking it.
Three more SOAC Courses will take place in this Centre during 2011;
- June (13th to 17th)
- September (19th to 23rd)
- October-November (31st Oct to 4th Nov).
WIT (WEAPONS INTELLIGENCE TEAM COURSE)
The course is intended to train personnel to collect, collate, assess and disseminate information on enemy capabilities relating directly to their use of weapons, caches, finds etc. It specifically includes the investigation of IEDs, IED explosions and the subsequent collection of intelligence and information, ultimately leading to the provision of information used to defeat the IED network. Priority is given to personnel assigned for operations.
Two more WIT Courses will take place in the Centre during 2001:

RECENT PAST TRAINING ACTIVITIES
08th to 12th Nov 2010 STAFF OFFICER AWARENESS COURSE (SOAC) / 01
This was the first course held at this Center of Excellence, so it was a real challenge for all involved.
The Allied Command Transformation (ACT) representative led the course, escorted by 4 HMS and WEXFORD instructors, and 2 Subject Matter Expert (SME) guest lecturers. It was a great experience and a quite good taking off.
17th to 21st Jan 2011 STAFF OFFICER AWARENESS COURSE (SOAC) / 02
A Staff Officer Awareness Course was hosted in this C-IED Centre of Excellence, from 17th to 21st January 2011. It was lead by a Commander, Allied Command Transformation (ACT) representative, three HMS / WEXFORD instructors and five Subject Matter Expert (SME) guest lecturers.
It was the second of this class held at this CoE, and has resulted in a successful experience for both the trainers and the attendees. There were a total of 33 attendees from eleven countries.
7th to 11th Mar 2011 STAFF OFFICER AWARENESS COURSE (SOAC) / 03
The five day SOAC course covers the following topic areas: Introduction to Asymmetric Threats and IEDs, NATO C-IED doctrine and capability development, key operational activities, and staff interaction and processes for attacking the IED system. The first two days of the course consist of instruction from Subject Matter Experts (SMEs). The third and fourth day are dedicated to placing students into syndicates and running scenarios designed to focus on C-IED Working Group organization and methods of attacking the IED system. The final day is scheduled to provide the opportunity for National and NATO representatives to provide briefings on C-IED capability and organizational developments.
The third SOAC held at this center, from 7th to 11th March 2011, run neat and smooth. It was led, as usual, by an ACT representative, mentored by four HMS instructors and improved with the presentations provided by five SME guest lecturers. We had an audience of 25 attendees from 10 countries (BUL, CAN, DEN, DEU, ESP, FRA, HUN, ITA, SWE and USA).
21st Mar to 1st Apr 2011 WEAPONS INTELLIGENCE TEAM COURSE (WIT)/ 01
The WIT course actually runs for 19 days and educates 16 students (four teams of four students working as a WIT) per course. It is open to Officers and NCOs currently identified to deploy to ISAF in the role of a WIT.
This was the first WIT held at the CoE. As with the SOAC, an ACT representative was present, supervising the fulfillment of the objectives. A group of eleven instructors from GBR, IRL, NLD, SWE and ESP completed the instructor’s package. A total of sixteen attendees from five countries took part in the course which runs quite smooth.
